Wild Grass is set amidst 30 acres of unfenced forestland that is frequently visited by rabbits, deer, wild boar, monkeys and over 40 species of birds as well as the occasional wild elephant. It is the ideal location for nature lovers, whether families with children, couples or honeymooners, who wish to enjoy their holiday disturbed only by the sounds of nature, while enjoying the ancient history and marvels of the cultural triangle.
An open-sided, two-storey pavilion located away from the villas houses the restaurant and lounge, flanked by a hill on one side and the Lenawa lake on the other, and surrounded by the magnificent Kandalama hills. A strict nature conservation philosophy is followed here and much is being done to preserve the natural eco-system. Organic farming methods are used to cultivate fruit and vegetables for the resort’s own use with the balance requirements purchased from the adjoining village.
The unique feature of Wild Grass remains its exceptional natural beauty and absolute solitude afforded to the traveler seeking a perfect rest. Intimate and secluded, the resort limits itself to just 8 villas in the entire property, adequately spaced out to make privacy the ultimate luxury.
Our Villas
Wild Grass offers the choice of 5 villas (for double or triple occupancy). It pioneered the family villa concept, with 2 villas with two bedrooms catering to families and friends (sleeping between 4 and 6 adults per villa).
Each villa has different layouts to ensure that you have a different experience each time you visit. Some are on two levels while others are on raised single levels, which give you the feeling of being nestled in the vegetation. In addition to the one bedroom villas, we have villas with two bedrooms, making it an ideal space for families or friends. Each villa has been built with minimum disturbance to the natural surroundings and spaced out for maximum privacy.
Wild Grass villas speak volumes of sheer comfort, artfully constructed almost entirely of stone and wood. A blend of modern functionalism and local architecture underpins the design of the villas and each is a unique entity. Generous use of glass provides a stunning experience of waking up in your plush bed to an unrestricted panoramic view of the mysterious and magical forest around you. The villas are set about 50 feet apart ensuring complete privacy and solitude. Private but open to sky bathrooms add a touch of exotic tropical thrill to the understated elegance of the villas.
Resort Facilities
Dining
As a small boutique hotel, Wild Grass is able to offer personalized attention to guest needs. Healthy, tastefully prepared food is therefore an integral part of the Wild Grass experience. Both international and local cuisines are offered, while paying careful attention to guests’ individual requirements.
Special food requests (including vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free meals) and other personal preferences are accommodated by Chef Tissa, who also manages the resort.
Guests can either dine at the TreeTops restaurant located above the main lounge, or under the stars on our terrace, at the poolside, and even in the privacy of your villa.
Dining timings are completely decided by the guests.
Au Naturale
Wild Grass believes in the sustainable balance of the ecosystem and seeks to promote itself as an energy conserver in conducting business in harmony with the environment. To this end, considerable effort has been made to ensure that only natural raw materials such as stone and wood (as much as possible sourced from the neighbourhood or crafted by small businesses in the island) have been used for construction.
Solar power provides for hot water and for partial lighting. Roofs have been fashioned from clay tiles and other environment-friendly materials while the use of asbestos has been strictly banned within the resort.
In keeping with the resort’s mission to protect the environment, even the kitchens function responsibly, with some of the restaurant’s supplies grown in-house using organic farming methods. When the resort was being built, we ensured that the larger trees were left untouched.
We also encourage our visitors to plant trees and reduce the carbon footprint!
Additional supplies of fruits and vegetables are sourced from the gardens of the village, thereby improving the livelihoods and well-being of its inhabitants.
