Gist of tourist attractions in the city of Kandy areas listed below; Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic or well known as Sri DaladaMaligawa, which houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha is the centre of Buddhist heritage. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, and this monument was established by King Wimaladharmasuriya- I (1592-1604) and since ancient times, the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic has played an important role in Sri Lankan history and it is believed that the custodian of the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic, holds the governance of the country. It's located just 8km from Sedevo Chalets and is reachable within a 10min drive. The world famous pagent or known as Kandy Perahera is held every year during the month of August, giving prominence to ancient traditions with a glittering procession of costumed elephants and various types of traditional dancers. Carriage of the Sacred Relic enshrined in a golden casket by magnificent tusker of Sri DaladaMaligawa, swaying tenderly is the center piece of the event. The stadium is just 6km from Sedevo Chalets and has been renamed as the MuttiahMuralitharan International Cricket Stadium in order to honour the legendary Sri Lankan cricketer and the spin wizard MuttiahMuralitharan, a native from Kandy. Walking around the compact Kandy city you can witness the construction made during the British colonial period with different style and architecture. Holy Trinity Church or Trinity Chapel is an open stone structure built in 1872 with its roof supported by 50 stone pillars. Holy Trinity Church or Trinity Chapel which is part of Trinity College one of the leading boys schools in Kandy had also been the first open chapel of the world. Visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage to see baby jumbos wondering around their cramped foster home or bottle fed and bathed by their human foster fathers. There are around 60 orphan elephants and most orphans are accustomed to their curious human visitors are harmless. Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is 53km from Sedevo Chalets and it's approx 1hrs drive away.
